CLASSES
All guild classes are on Tuesdays or Thursdays, depending upon the class, unless otherwise noted

Classes are 8-week sessions. Class instructors are listed with the respective classes.
  • What: Beginning/Intermediate Pottery Class
  • Instructor: Hide Igaki
  • When:
    • September 7th - October 26th, 6:00 - 8:00pm
  • Cost: $145 includes 25lbs of clay, glaze and firing
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
Use this class to learn the basics of wheel work and clay- or as a brush up on already acquired skills. You will learn about clay types, how to make functional wares to enjoy, the basics of glazing. It is a beginning and a continuation for those seeking more skills before moving on to more advanced throwing.
  • What: Intermediate/Advanced Throwing Fine Tuning
  • Instructor: Chris Wolff
  • Chris is a new instructor at NCPG but well known as a local Fort Collins potter. Chris is known for the high quality of his work along with his unique touches.
  • When:
    • September 9th - October 28th, 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • Cost: $145 includes 25lbs of clay, glaze and firing

In this class, students will receive instruction enabling them to continue the development of their skills and learn new tips and techniques.
  • What: Improving Throwing Techniques
  • Instructor: Hide Igaki
  • When:
    • September 7th - October 26th, 9:30 - 11:30am
  • Cost: $145 includes clay, glaze, firing, and instruction
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
  • Lab Time: 2 hours per week maximum
This is a mixed class - beginners to advanced - to continue developing their skills. The instructor will help all students develop and acquire new skills.
  • What: Advanced Throwing Series - All 4 Sessions
  • Instructors: Connie Christensen and Robin Furuta (Connie will teach the morning sessions and Robin will teach in the afternoon)
  • When:
    • September 18th, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    • October 2nd, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Cost: $210 (includes 50# of clay and instruction. Arrangements for bisque firing or glazing & firing can be made for a minimal additional charge for non-NCPG members; members can fire at their usual fees.)
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
Please see the descriptions of each individual session below. Each participant should bring your own throwing tools. If you do not have your own tools we can provide a minimal set.

Connie Christensen and Robin Furuta will be teaching a series of 4 workshops designed for intermediate and advanced potters. Each session will focus on different techniques and skills. Although you may sign up for any number of the sessions, we would encourage you to do them all as this is a unique opportunity to learn a variety of techniques from these two excellent potters and instructors! Plus if you sign up for all four sessions you will receive a $30 discount!

Connie lives in Denver, Colorado and teaches advanced throwing classes at the Arvada Center. Robin Furuta received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. She is a studio potter with a focus on form and functional ware which is strongly inspired by a traditional Japanese aesthetic. mainly working in porcelain clay. Robin has been a studio potter and teacher for 18 years and is currently teaching at Art Student League, Arapahoe Community College, Arvada Center and MACC, all in the Denver – Metro area.
  • What: Advanced Throwing Series - Session #1 - Teapots
  • Instructor: Connie Christensen
  • When:
    • September 18th, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
  • Cost: $60 (includes 25# of clay and instruction. Arrangements for bisque firing or glazing & firing can be made for a minimal additional charge for non-NCPG members; members can fire at their usual fees.)
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
During Session #1, Connie will demonstrate throwing and assembling a faceted teapot and creating handmade handles. Students may not be able to assemble their teapots completely during the session, but are welcome to bring a pre-assembled teapot and get instruction on how to attach a bamboo handle (materials for handle will be available for purchase at the workshop.)

Each participant should bring your own throwing tools. If you do not have your own tools we can provide a minimal set.
  • What: Advanced Throwing Series - Session #2 - Platters, Closed Forms, and Slip Techniques
  • Instructor: Robin Furuta
  • When:
    • September 18th, 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Cost: $60 (includes 25# of clay and instruction. Arrangements for bisque firing or glazing & firing can be made for a minimal additional charge for non-NCPG members; members can fire at their usual fees.)
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
During Session #2, Robin will demonstrate closed forms such and bottles and spheres, throwing platters and applying slip techniques.

Each participant should bring your own throwing tools. If you do not have your own tools we can provide a minimal set.
  • What: Advanced Throwing Series - Session #3 – Sets using altering techniques
  • Instructor: Connie Christensen
  • When:
    • October 2nd, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
  • Cost: $60 (includes 25# of clay and instruction. Arrangements for bisque firing or glazing & firing can be made for a minimal additional charge for non-NCPG members; members can fire at their usual fees.)
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
During Session #3, Connie will demonstrate sets using altering techniques.

Each participant should bring your own throwing tools. If you do not have your own tools we can provide a minimal set.
  • What: Advanced Throwing Series - Session #4 – Lidded Forms
  • Instructor: Robin Furuta
  • When:
    • October 2nd, 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Cost: $60 (includes 25# of clay and instruction. Arrangements for bisque firing or glazing & firing can be made for a minimal additional charge for non-NCPG members; members can fire at their usual fees.)
  • Maximum number: 8 Minimum number: 4
During Session #4, Robin will demonstrate various types of lidded forms.

Each participant should bring your own throwing tools. If you do not have your own tools we can provide a minimal set.
  • What: Homeschool Handbuilding Class
  • Instructor: Christine Ginnity
  • When:
    • September 7th - October 12th, 1:00pm - 3:00pm
      • Age Group: 5 - 12 years old
      • Maximum number: 9 Minimum number: 5
  • Cost: $70includes clay, glaze, firing, and instruction
Students will have the opportunity to learn handbuilding techniques as they create a variety of exciting projects.
